Make Your Own Liquid Soap

Do you just prefer liquid hand soap? You can make your own liquid soap using bar soap. Why would you do that? It is more natural, as most store bought liquid soaps are actually detergents instead of soap. It is also more cost effective. One bar of soap can make about a gallon of liquid soap. This is also a great way to use “soap scraps” that have become thin or small enough that they are difficult to handle. What You Need:

  • 1 ounce of finely grated Vela Bar Soap (about 1/4 of a bar of soap)
  • 1 quart of distilled water
  • A reusable liquid soap dispenser

What To Do:

  1. Place the grated bar soap and water into a small saucepan.
  2. Turn on medium heat and stir constantly until soap has dissolved into the water.
  3. Let cool completely for at least 12 hrs.
  4. Give it another good stir. You can even blend it in a blender for super smooth results.
  5. Pour into your liquid soap dispenser.

Your liquid soap is ready to use! Keep in mind that you aren’t adding any additional preservatives, so it is best to make your liquid soap in small batches instead of gallons at a time.
