How Soap Cleans

You know soap makes things cleaner, but how exactly does it work? Does soap kill germs? The answer is no! But, it does help remove dirt and germs from whatever you are cleaning. Dirt and germs stick to the oils on your skin, in your hair, on your dishes, and in your clothes (or whatever you may be washing). Just rinsing with water doesn’t really work because water molecules are more attracted to each other than oil. That’s where soap comes in. Soap has one end that's water loving, or hydrophilic, and one end that's oil loving, or hydrophobic. Soap binds with both the germ filled oil and the water, at the same time. As you rinse the soap off of what you are cleaning, the dirt and germs are carried away with the soap suds. So fresh and so clean!
